US-based cosmetics brand Kiehl’s Since 1851 has launched a new skincare formula using quinoa husk extract, as well as a limited edition cream for eyes.
The new Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate is expected to offer accelerated cell turnover for refined texture, improved skin tone and softer skin.
Sourced from the protective outer shell of the quinoa seed, the extract features exfoliating properties that facilitate the easier removal of dead cells on the skin surface.
To secure supply of this ingredient, it has formed partnerships with Bolivian suppliers and a foundation that sustainably source the quinoa husk from local farmers.
Through using this ingredient, the firm aims to provide socio-economic development in three years to 250 Bolivian farms and their families.
The company has launched Limited Edition Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado.
This limited edition product will feature art by Nikki Reed, Gabrielle Reece and Laird Hamilton.
As part of its commitment to the environment, it will also donate $50,000 to Recycle Across America, a not-for-profit organisation providing society-wide solutions that eliminate public confusion around recycling, stimulate the environmental economy and expedite progress.
Kiehl’s US president Chris Salgardo said: "We’ve been working with Recycle Across America since 2012. Their mission to introduce solutions that make recycling more simple, comprehensive and effective in the United States is perfectly aligned with our values.
"Through our Recycle & Be Rewarded programme, Kiehl’s has collected 3,000,000 empty Kiehl’s bottles from our shoppers and recycled them on their behalf. We hope to reach the 3,500,000 mark this year."
