Beauty augmented reality technology provider ModiFace has introduced a new web-based assessment platform for skincare brands.
Users submit selfies to the platform, which delivers a virtual skin consultation. Based on detailed analysis of the photographs, the program then makes personal skincare product recommendations.
To develop its new technology, ModiFace reflected on its experiences from previous skin analysis technologies such as the visual skin-care simulation, which was released in 2007 in partnership with Allergan.
This tool analysed skin texture, dryness, and discolouration. It linked analysis results to personalised, motivational suggestions for maintaining and improving overall skin health.
ModiFace founder and CEO Dr Parham Aarabi said: "We realised that instead of scoring the user's skin based on different dimensions, it would be far more useful to provide specific personalised advice that is both motivational and instructional.
“In other words, instead of criticising the user's skin or measuring their skin age, we tell users what is great about their current skin and how to maintain and enhance their skin health.”
Built in HTML, the new platform is compatible with all operating systems such as windows, iOS, and android, as well as on all mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
The technology was tested in collaboration with L'Oreal's skincare brand Vichy and is currently available on Vichy's web and mobile sites.
