The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has warned patients against malpractices at certain medical centres and health clinics in the country.
The move is part of an initiative to raise awareness and protect people from unlicensed beauty and fitness centres that do not comply with the official health regulations.
Cosmetic procedures conducted with poor-quality products, by non-specialised professionals, or without proper hygiene and sterilisation can lead to serious complications.
It is reported that these practitioners also lack provision for emergency care in case of associated complications such as burns, fainting, and fatigue.
MOHAP public health policy and licensing assistant undersecretary Dr Amin Hussein Al Amiri has urged patients to consult professionals in licensed establishments for cosmetic treatments.
The Ministry also highlighted enhanced hospitalisations due to false supplements or injectable hormones that are used and sold to improve muscle structure in fitness centres.
MOHAP has collaborated with various municipalities in the country to monitor these nutritional substances.
