Plant manufacturer BDI – BioEnergy International (BDI) and its subsidiary BDI – BioLife Science are set to build a new industrial plant for the production of algae biomass in Ökopark Hartberg/Steiermark, Austria.
Scheduled to begin construction by the end of this year, the new automated plant will see an investment of approximately €16m.
Initially, BDI – BioLife Science intends to produce algae-based additives for cosmetics applications.
The plant will feature a new algae production system for site-independent manufacture of the biomass.
Engineered, constructed, and operated by BDI, the in-door breeding system is fully closed for the prevention of negative external influences and to allow potentially rapid algal growth.
BDI board member Edgar Ahn said: “Constant production quantities and highest purity and quality of the algae product are of utmost importance for our future clients, the content must match the label.
“With the rapidly increasing demand for algae products on the world market, this does not always seem to be the case. Therefore we want to position ourselves as reliable premium producer.”
BDI intends for the new plant to meet the increasing demand for natural ingredients and biological non-hazardous alternatives in the cosmetics sector.
