Tanning brand UTan and Tone has formulated the world’s first edible tanning supplement – UTan Tan Gummies – which is currently being sold at Superdug.
The manufacturer claims that after consuming the supplement for two to three weeks, users will start to see changes in skin tone.
More than skin deep?
The supplement is made up of vitamins, minerals and essential plant-based nutrients, such as lycopene, lutein and astaxanthin.
The chemical properties of Lutein indicate that it can have some form of effect on the body’s visual system, and high levels have been proven reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration.
Astaxanthin, meanwhile, is a carotenoid, with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.
Studies suggest that long-term prophylactic astaxanthin supplementation may inhibit age-linked skin deterioration, and sustain skin conditions linked with environmentally induced damage.
Similarly, lycopene is also a powerful antioxidant that eliminates harmful free radicals, which can damage DNA and other fragile cell structures.
Studies have highlighted that diets rich in lycopene can help reduce the risk of certain types of cancer.
Researchers have also proposed that it can potentially reduce inflammation and cholesterol, improve immune function, and prevent blood clotting – all of which may reduce the risk of ischaemic strokes.
A healthy outlook
The supplement has already shown positive results for beauty users.
However, research indicates that it may have an even bigger impact on the health industry, thanks to the role of its ingredients in preventing various medical conditions.
There is a lack of long-term safety data for the product, but assuming this obstacle can be overcome, it is likely that this product will go from strength to strength as it aids consumers both inside and out.
